Glacier, Receding.

Over three years of expeditions across Vatnajökull, we followed glaciologist Dr. Halla Sigurdsdóttir and a small team measuring what is, and what is leaving. Shot on anamorphic in temperatures below −28°C, the film was edited with a single rule: don't flinch.

Premiered at Sundance 2025. Acquired by Apple TV+. Webby Award for Documentary, Editorial Excellence — D&AD Black Pencil.

03 — The studio

Based in Reykjavík. Built for weather.

NORTHRUN is a small, deliberate studio — twelve people who shoot, edit and grade under one roof on Hverfisgata, two blocks from the harbour. We were founded in 2014 by a cinematographer and an editor who got tired of waiting for the right light somewhere else.

Our work moves between documentary and commercial — long expeditions for Nat Geo and BBC Earth, fast turn brand films for Apple and Patagonia, branded long-form for Hermès and Arc'teryx. Whatever the deliverable, we shoot tactile, we cut quiet, and we finish in-house on our own Baselight suite.

We say no to most things. The work we say yes to, we obsess over.

05 — Process

Four phases. No surprises.

Most films take 4–9 months. Commercials, 6–14 weeks. Every brief is its own thing — we'll tell you on the call.

PHASE / 01

Concept

Two weeks of listening before we draw a single shot. Director, producer, and writer in the room with you, building a treatment that says no to as much as it says yes.

PHASE / 02

Production

Small crews, big windows. We light for weather, scout for hours, and shoot only when the frame is honest. Anamorphic by default, handheld when it matters.

PHASE / 03

Post

Picture, sound, and grade under one roof. Our editors cut quiet — long holds, tactile sound design. Baselight grade by our colourist, Sigga, ex-Company 3.

PHASE / 04

Delivery

Masters in every format you need, plus an archive of frames, behind-the-scenes stills, and approved social cut-downs. Nothing left on the cutting room floor that shouldn't be.
